TWO PUBLIC PERFORMANCES ONLY!

What’s it about?

What would you give up for the chance to build a better life? In apartheid-era South Africa, Sizwe Banzi comes to the city looking for work to support his family. But when the papers he carries deny him the right to stay, an unexpected discovery presents a desperate choice: keep his name or claim a future.

Blending sharp humour with moving drama, Sizwe Banzi Is Dead explores friendship, dignity and the lengths a man will go to for those he loves. Directed by Philip A. Burrows and created by Athol Fugard, John Kani and Winston Ntshona, this gripping play asks a question that reaches far beyond its setting: if you lose your name, do you lose yourself?
