Freeport, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas. Friday, May 22, 2026. The Freeport Players’ Guild premiered Body Count last night at the Regency Theatre to a near-capacity opening night audience, launching an original Bahamian dark comedy that has already sparked excitement among patrons and calls for the production to travel to Nassau.

Written by Olivia Dorsett and Ewurabena Appiah, and directed by Preston Knowles, Body Count is set in Freeport, Grand Bahama, where one bad night, one car, and one very suspicious “long story” spiral into a frantic farce of friendship, panic, secrets, nosy neighbours, useless help, and bodies that just keep complicating the math.

Opening night also marked the return of Thursday performances at the Regency Theatre. In place of a higher-priced gala format, the Guild welcomed patrons with a special $30 opening night ticket, compared to the regular $35 ticket price, along with complimentary wine for patrons courtesy of Bahamian Brewery and Beverage.

The evening featured a surprise one-night-only cameo by popular internet personalities Das Quay and Sarge, who delighted the audience and brought an unforgettable final burst of energy to the show.

“Bringing Bahamian comedy back to the Regency Theatre stage in this way is incredibly special,” said Olivia Dorsett, President of the Freeport Players’ Guild, writer, and producer of Body Count. “This production celebrates local talent, local humour, and the kind of storytelling that lets our community see itself on stage, no matter how ridiculous. The response from opening night confirms what we already believed. Grand Bahama is ready, excited, and hungry for original Bahamian theatre. And for the Guild to do so in its 65th year, coming out of a dark time post Covid and Dorian, is a welcome breath of fresh air.”

Director Preston Knowles described the production as “a dark comedy that goes from least worse to worse in the funniest possible way,” adding that the cast and crew brought “commitment, timing, and energy” to a story rooted in relatable personalities, outrageous decisions, and nonstop laughter.

Body Count features known actors Sadé Pinder, Sherone Brown, Tempestt Bullard, and Remardo Russell as Peanut, Antonio GuarroOntario Richardson, along with newcomers Loukeisha CartwrightKeith Russell Jr., Shantara Smith, Shakaara Jones and Antonio Fowler.
